What are antidepressant medications?

Antidepressant drugs are drugs that are used to treat all forms of depression. From moderate depression to severe anxiety-related depression to bipolar disorder or cyclothymic disorder. This group of medicines is massive, since there are various kinds of mental illness and stress-related issues so you will also need to use for different underlying causes of depression, and different medicines can function for different people, depending on requirements.  An antidepressant which is has been advised to patients to cure depression can several weeks to fully show its result.   It is equally crucial that people who are on medications is to have constant communication with their physician or doctor.

Most Common Type of Antidepressant drugs-

Selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs) : Many doctors or psychiatrists prescribing this type of  form of antidepressant as it is known as beginner drugs.  SSRIs are very effective in calming down people for most people, with less side effects compared with other drugs.  The SSRI antidepressants are widely prescribed by Paxil, Prozac, Celexa, Lexapro, and Zoloft.

Serotonin and norepinephrine reuptake inhibitors (SNRIs):SNRI drugs function by stopping both serotonin and norepinephrine from being consumed by receptors.allowing for increased neuronal contact and elevated mood. So that the  effects of such neurotransmitters remain longer in the brain for an extended period of time. The antidepressants are include Cymbalta, Fetzima, Effexor, and Pristiq.

Tricyclic antidepressants (TCAs): These antidepressants tend to be a little more powerful than SSRIs or SNRIs, and they also cause more side effects. They were some of the earliest antidepressants but have fallen out of favor over time. Tricyclic antidepressants are not prescribed often; usually, they are prescribed in the instance that other antidepressants like SSRIs have not been effective. These medications increase levels of serotonin and norepinephrine in the brain by both blocking reuptake and changing output of the neurotransmitters. Medications in this category include Elavil, Tofranil, and Pamelor.
